What Calibration Services Involve

Calibration is fundamentally a comparison process that establishes the relationship between the measurements provided by a device under test (DUT) and the values provided by a standard instrument.

The Core Process

Inspection and As-Found Test: A technician inspects the instrument for damage and takes initial readings (as-found data) to document its current condition and deviation from specifications.

Comparison to a Standard: The DUT's readings are compared to a working standard (the reference instrument), which has a higher degree of accuracy and is traceable to national or international standards (e.g., NIST, SI units).

Adjustment (if necessary): If the instrument is found to be outside its specified tolerance, internal adjustments are made to bring its performance back within specification.

Certification and As-Left Test: Final readings (as-left data) are taken and recorded on a Calibration Certificate, which serves as official, traceable proof of the service.
